A potential celebrity boxing clash between street-pop stars Small Doctor and Portable has sparked excitement among fans and sports enthusiasts following the viral circulation of Small Doctor’s training videos on social media.
Adekunle Temitope, popularly known as Small Doctor, has been impressing boxing fans with his sparring routines at Lagos’ Police College in Ikeja, where he’s frequently spotted training. This has reignited chatter among followers about his long-speculated boxing talent.
Meanwhile, Portable, real name Habeeb Okikiola, is no stranger to the ring either. The controversial singer boasts an unbeaten record from two celebrity bouts — having defeated Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington in the past.
Now, a section of fans is calling for a face-off between the two artists, both hailed as “kings of the street,” to settle not just old personal scores but also to test their mettle in the ring.
The buzz intensified after a Facebook page, Comrades Bloggers, posted a clip of Small Doctor in a sparring session with the caption: “Omoh Small Doctor too sabi. I’m going to place my bet on him vs Portable.”
The comment section quickly exploded with reactions, mostly favouring Small Doctor as the superior fighter.
“He will finish Portable. Small Doctor was a boxer before music,” one fan, Adebowale Adeyinka, claimed.
Another commenter, Ahmmed Taiwo, added, “Portable run ooo. Small Doctor trains inside the Police College. Original Agege boy.”
However, Portable wasn’t without support. A few fans warned against underestimating the Zazu Zeh crooner.
“Yes, he is a good boxer, but size matters too, and Portable has boxing skills and stamina,” argued Olayinka Silva.
“Portable, all these are lies; he can never beat you. Let them pick a date,” another supporter, Raji Olamilekan, posted.
Calls for the bout have also reignited memories of the artists’ personal beef, which dominated headlines between 2022 and 2023. A match-up could be the perfect avenue to finally settle their differences.
Meanwhile, in an exclusive chat with PUNCH Sports Extra, the Secretary-General of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC), Remi Aboderin, outlined the requirements for staging such a celebrity fight.
“It must be sanctioned by an NBBofC-approved promoter,” Aboderin explained. “There must be other undercard fights, and although it's not necessary for the fighters to be in the same weight category, they must both agree. Medicals, weigh-ins, and a clear prize purse must also be in place.”
While no official announcement has been made, fans continue to fuel speculation — and betting predictions — over who would emerge victorious if Small Doctor and Portable finally trade microphones for gloves.
