Three men, including two brothers, who allegedly forged a document and stole N25 million belonging to their sister, Uzezi Obahor, were on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The two brothers, Paul Obahor, 42; Isaiah Obahor, 32; and Sunday Okovwutu, 52, residing in Ogba area of Ikeja, are standing trial on a four-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, forgery and failing to report felonies.

The Police prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Imhonwa, told the court that the accused committed the offences sometime in April 2015 at Allen Avenue, Ikeja. He alleged that the two brothers conspired with Okovwutu to steal their sister’s money. Imhonwa claimed that Paul fraudulently converted N25 million, being proceed from the sale of a piece of land belonging to the complainant, to his own personal use. The prosecutor said that Paul gave his younger brother and Okovwutu N2 million each, so that they would not tell the complainant that he had sold the land. Imhonwa also alleged that the accused used forged documents to sell the piece of land. He said that when Uzezi discovered that her brothers had sold her land and spent the money, she reported the matter to the police and the accused were arrested. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the offences.

The offences contravene Sections 98, 287, 363 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O Osunsanmi, granted each of the accused bail of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum. Osunsanmi adjourned further hearing in the case until Aug. 28 for mention.
