Two principal officers of the Jigawa State-owned School of Nursing and Midwifery reportedly engaged in confrontation which led to an exchange of blows over a paltry N6,000 spent to entertain some guests. The Provost, Hajiya Aisha Muhammad Kazaure, was said to have walked into the office of the acting Director of Midwifery, Hajiya Halima Muhammad Yunusa, and demanded a refund of expenses she incurred while attending to her guests.

The demand led to an argument between the two women and resulted in an exchange of abusive words. The incident occurred on Friday. Witnesses said there had been a frosty relationship between the two principal officers since the director was asked to head the School of Midwifery. It was learnt that some students and lecturers rushed to the director’s office when they heard of the fight.

The academic staff of the college, who summoned an emergency congress over the fight, condemned the actions of the provost and director and declared it unacceptable to the academic community.
In a Communiqué issued at the end of their meeting, signed by Ibrahim Aji, Aliyu Maigida, Rabi Tijjani, Abdullahi Adamu and Ahmad Alhaji, which was made available to journalists yesterday, the lecturers called for the immediate suspension of the two principal officers while an investigative panel should be set-up by the state Ministry of Health with a view to finding and punishing the guilty party.

They also threatened to down tools if necessary action was not taken by the authorities to check the “embarrassment” which had been on since the provost assumed duty.
When contacted, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abba Zakari, said
Quote
“the ministry has already instituted an investigative committee that will furnish us with its findings and recommendations before we could take any action on the matter.”
