Nigeria Election Timetable: National Assembly Mulls 30-day Extension

Despite the pressure being mounted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and political parties to extend the 2011 general election timetable by two months, the National Assembly may not grant more than one month, THISDAY has learnt.

This is even as it has emerged that the amended 1999 constitution has been gazetted and will be flown into Abuja today, finally putting a seal to the amendment process despite the controversy over whether or not presidential assent is mandatory for it to become operational.
