Two, out of the three victims of the fire incident which took place at the Ojoo roundabout in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, on Tuesday, have been confirmed dead, as a result of the degree of the burns they suffered.

The deceased, one elderly woman, popularly known as Iya Ogbomoso, and Mr Isa Alao, who were rushed to the University Teaching Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, were said to be in critical conditions, but later died, on Wednesday.

Mr Sunday Ojebunmi, the only victim alive, at the time of filing this report, is said to have suffered intense burns and remained in critical conditions at the Burns Intensive Unit, UCH. Meanwhile, philan-thropic gestures have been extended to the victims by the people of the local government. Among the philanthropists is Chief Adeleke Apapa, who donated provisions and cash items to the wife of the survivor, Mrs Ojebunmi, on Wednesday.

Chief Apapa, during his visit to the site of the incident, on Wednesday, expressed concern over the rate of preventable incidents, which have continually plagued the area, saying that it was expedient to find a lasting solution to the problem.

“I really appreciate the fire fighters, the army and the people who ensured that this disaster did not extend to a more regrettable level. However, we believe that these incidents are preventable.

“Our governor, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, alongside the authorities concerned, is very much aware of this incident and all hands are on deck to find a lasting solution to this menace. But I want to call on the people of this area, the traders and tanker drivers to please cooperate with the government in terms of decisions to be made to avoid this calamity in the future,” he said.
