The Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court has remanded two men, Saviour Daniel, 25, and David Isaiah, 25, in a correctional facility over the alleged murder of a commercial sex worker. The defendants, whose addresses were unknown, are facing charges of murder and conspiracy.
According to the prosecutor, Insp Olubu Apata, the defendants committed the offences in February 2024, in Ado-Ekiti. It was alleged that they murdered Comfort James, suspected to be a commercial sex worker, after she followed them to their house from a brothel and demanded payment for services rendered. They reportedly strangled her and poured pesticides into her mouth, leading to her death.
The defendants were not allowed to enter their pleas, and the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Awosika, ordered their remand in a correctional facility pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). The case was adjourned until March 21 for mention.
It was reported that Comfort James was last seen on February 6 at her residence in Isato Street, Ado Ekiti. She was allegedly picked up at a brothel by Saviour Daniel and never returned.
Following a complaint received by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ekiti State Command alleging her kidnapping, investigations revealed that the suspects demanded a ransom of N1 million for her release. Unable to pay, the victim's friends reported the incident to the Command.
The NSCDC conducted a swift operation and arrested the suspects. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to kidnapping, repeatedly molesting, murdering, and dumping the victim's body in a nearby farmland. They also admitted to stealing her cellphone and demanding ransom from her friends and family.
