The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended a 40-year-old man, identified as Habu Ibrahim, over suspicions of plotting to poison his wife in Danadama village, Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area.
This development was disclosed by the State Police Commissioner, A.T. Abdullahi, in a statement provided to Daily Post.
According to Commissioner Abdullahi, the arrest came after reports surfaced that the suspect had allegedly tampered with a drink and meat, infusing them with poison, with the apparent target being his 35-year-old wife, Zakiya Uzairu. The motive behind the heinous act, as revealed by the suspect, was to acquire his wife's wealth.
Prompt action by detectives from the Sule Tankarkar Division led to the swift apprehension of the suspect at the scene of the intended crime.
Subsequently, Habu Ibrahim was taken into custody at the Divisional Police office in Sule Tankarkar for interrogation before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for further investigation.
During questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime, corroborating the information provided to the police. He admitted to his intention to eliminate his wife in order to inherit her livestock, which included goats, sheep, and cows.
Fortunately, the wife narrowly escaped the nefarious plot after detecting the poison in the food and drink, thereby thwarting her husband's sinister intentions.
The arrest serves as a stark reminder of the prevalence of domestic violence and the urgent need for robust measures to protect vulnerable individuals within communities. The police command has assured the public of its commitment to ensuring justice is served in this case.
