Few love more fervently than the middle-aged and lonely. Which is why last week’s revelation that divorcee Kate Roberts lavished £80,000 on a handsome American soldier – only to find out he was a fictitious creation of a heartless gang of Nigerian conmen – came as yet another salutary warning that not everything is what it seems on the Worldwide Web.

Kate, who had to sell her house to pay off her debts, is one of a rising tide of women (and a number of men) who have fallen for a new and worrying crime phenomenon: the romantic scam or rom scam.

One widowed grandmother, identified only as Jean, lost more than £100,000 to a fake soldier who told her he was raising a teenage son alone. She answered his calls for help with bills, school fees and getting his ‘son’ out of military prison. Read more: http://indepthafrica.com/nigeria/?p=721

Catch them and make them langwish in jail for life

Too many people, too few jobs.  This romancescam is worldwide and is run by mobsters much higher up than the guy scamming.  We in America love the Nigerian people (your culture, beauty, music, etc.) and are not fooled by the bad press given to Nigeria because of scammers.

We have romancescammers here in the USA, (white) before them (olden days) we had what were called Playboys.  Pretended love to get cash from lonely women.  Also many men have been fooled by gold diggers here, this epidemic is worldwide. Lonely old white woman marries a young Nigerian man, brings him to Europe/USA/Wherever.  If he is wise he will work hard while there, get his visa, then send money home to Nigeria, or if family wants to come, bring them where he lives.  Intellectually?  After he pays his dues (married to old lady wife) move on to a new life and help his own.  Sorry if I sound cold but if you want to buy a husband or a wife from a country that needs HELP, you deserve what God provides in our country, if you love him/her you stay with them, if not you divorce....Your call.....No haters please...Understanding is best...

What Nigeria needs is manufacturing and professional companies to invest in Nigeria, once a child from a baby has been shown the ways of crime it cannot be undone except by God.  We are not fools over here, we know what ALL governments (including ours) are doing.  Now, we are being crumbled to a Third World Country due to greed, how can we help others if our own hard working people are being taxed to death and all jobs given to China/Mexico etc.  When America comes to Nigeria they mistreat the workers and take what is not theirs to take.  THIS MUST STOP!  Human Rights Groups must work harder.  We sent millions to Haiti, the people did not get it, corruption is what we must fight, not each other.  We must work together somehow to stop this mess or else believe that 2012 is a reality? Sorry for all us real people, all colors, all religions, all human.

good sense of reasoning!
development comes with increase criminalities!
NIGERIA is neither the country with the highest conmen nor criminalities!
as you rightly said, ''GLOBAL CORRUPTION'' against ''GLOBALISATION'' should be made to stop!!!!!
