The death of veteran Nollywood actor Amaechi Muonagor on Sunday has sent many Nigerians mourning. The actor died at the age of 61 after suffering from kidney-related issues, diabetes, and stroke.

Below are 10 quick facts about the late actor.

1. Amaechi was born in 1962 at Obosi, a village in Idemili North Area of Anambra State.


2. Muonagor was nominated for the 2017 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards for Best actor.

3. He joined the Nigerian movie industry Nollywood in 1998 and had starred in many movies including Taboo 1 (1989), Aki and Pawpaw, Karishika (1998), and Aki na Ukwa (2002), Igodo (1999).

4. Muonagor attended St. Mary’s Primary School, Obosi, Oraifite Grammar School before he furthered his education at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) where he studied economics and graduated in 1987.

5. In 1989 after his youth service, Amaechi started working for the News Agency of Nigeria.


6.  He left his job a few years later for an acting role in his first movie as Akunatakasi in Taboo 1, a Nigerian movie.

7. In 2020, Amaechi said segxwal harassment was not peculiar to Nollywood as it happens in every profession.

8. In 2016, Muonagor has not appeared or featured in any movie as he was suffering from diabetes.

9. He died after a long battle with kidney failure on March 24, 2024.

10. The late actor was married to Hope Chikodi Muonagor and they have four children.

God will comfort his family and give them helpers where needed. Prolonged illness is very bad for any family and not with the harsh reality of the economy these days.
