In a groundbreaking move for diversity and representation in sports ownership, former England women's player Eniola Aluko has made history by becoming the first black woman to own a club in Italy.

Aluko, a prominent figure in women's football, has acquired a significant stake in FC Como's female team, marking a significant milestone in her career off the pitch.

The 37-year-old shared the exciting news on her social media platform, revealing her involvement in a groundbreaking venture. Aluko disclosed her membership in a $100 million ownership group named Mercury 13, which has secured a majority stake in FC Como's women's team.

Established just two years ago in 2020, Como Women has quickly risen in prominence within the Italian football landscape. The team competes in the top tier of Italian women's football, the Serie A, and boasts a home stadium with a capacity of 3,700.

Eniola Aluko, hailing from Lagos, Nigeria, was born to Nigerian parents in 1987. Despite her Nigerian roots, she later naturalized to England and represented the Three Lionesses, leaving a lasting impact on the English women's football scene.

Aluko's achievement not only signifies her entrepreneurial spirit but also serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for aspiring black female sports executives around the world.
