
In a recent development, the Lagos State Police have made significant strides in a murder investigation, apprehending two individuals identified as scavengers allegedly involved in the killing of a man known as Friday, who reportedly uncovered their illicit activities.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, shedding light on the incident.
According to Hundeyin, the sequence of events unfolded when an unnamed individual lodged a complaint at the Ilemba Hausa Police Division on Friday afternoon around 4:30 pm.
The report detailed that earlier that day, around 11 am, the complainant heard cries for help emanating from his residence. Rushing to investigate, he discovered his elder brother, Friday, 34, lying in a pool of blood. At the scene, two suspects, later identified as Abubakar Haruna, 20, and Mohammed Abdullahi, 18, were observed fleeing.
Upon preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the suspects, described as scavengers, allegedly trespassed into an uncompleted building in the neighborhood with the intention of pilfering roofing sheets. Friday confronted them, leading to a confrontation during which the suspects purportedly used scissors to inflict fatal injuries to the victim's head.
Following the altercation, Friday was rushed to the Navy Hospital Satellite Town, where medical personnel pronounced him dead upon arrival.
Hundeyin disclosed that the apprehended suspects are presently in police custody, undergoing further interrogation in connection with the murder. Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at a hospital mortuary pending ongoing investigations.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities aim to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident, seeking justice for the victim and closure for his family and loved ones.
