
The Nigerian Army has apprehended a man masquerading as an army recruitment officer in Taraba State, following attempts to defraud aspiring soldiers.
The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday in Jalingo by Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, the Commandant of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE, OPWS.
According to General Uwa, the suspect was apprehended during a visit to the recruitment center located at 114 Battalion, Jimilari village, Lau local government council of Taraba State on June 22, 2024. The impostor had been collecting money from prospective recruits under the false pretense of securing their admission into the Nigerian Army.
"Our recruitment process is strictly based on merit, and we do not condone fraudulent activities," emphasized General Uwa, reassuring candidates of a fair and transparent selection process.
He cautioned aspiring soldiers against falling victim to scams, urging them not to part with money in exchange for promises of guaranteed enlistment.
General Uwa commended the vigilance of the troops involved in the arrest, highlighting the Army's commitment to maintaining the integrity of its recruitment procedures. He assured that the apprehended suspect would be handed over to appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
In conclusion, the Commandant urged the public and prospective recruits to report any suspicious activities related to the recruitment exercise to the relevant authorities, emphasizing the Army's resolve to safeguard the recruitment process from fraudulent elements.
