Woman Sentenced To Seven Years For Throwing Newborn Daughter Out Of Window To Protect Career

Katarina Jovanovic, a 28-year-old woman from Lauffen am Neckar in Baden-Wuerttemberg State, Germany, has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for manslaughter after throwing her newborn daughter out of a window, fearing that having a child would ruin her career.

According to the Daily Mail, Jovanovic was found guilty at the Heilbronn District Court on Wednesday, July 3. The court heard that she secretly gave birth at home on September 12, ten months ago, and then dropped her minutes-old baby daughter from her apartment window, a fall of nearly 12 feet onto the tarmac below.

Horrified passersby discovered the infant’s body, with a shattered skull, beneath Jovanovic’s balcony and immediately called the police. ASB Zeitung reported that Jovanovic admitted to the crime at the beginning of her trial in April but was unable to explain her actions to the court.
