The Delta State Police Command has apprehended four suspects involved in using their bank accounts to facilitate and launder ransom payments for kidnappers.
As reported by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, on X.com on Wednesday, these suspects would receive a 15 per cent cut of the ransom money.
They would then withdraw the remaining 85 per cent through Point of Sale (PoS) machines and deliver the cash to the kidnappers.
The suspects also confessed to using the proceeds to fund their plans to build a cryptocurrency website, allegedly for internet fraud purposes.
Sharing a video of the suspects, Edafe wrote, “The suspects were receiving kidnapping ransom money with their accounts, taking 15 per cent and withdrawing the balance 85 per cent via PoS nd giving to the kidnappers in cash.
They also stated that they were using the proceeds to build a crypto website for Internet fraud. Pls listen to their modus.”
