A deadly attack by armed bandits on Saturday has left four soldiers dead and two others injured in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The ambush occurred along the Kukurau-Bangi road, as confirmed by state House of Assembly representative Yahya Gudu.

According to Gudu, the bandits intercepted the soldiers during their patrol, setting fire to their vehicles in the process. The attack unfolded on August 10, 2024, with the bandits employing a fleet of 20 motorcycles to execute their assault.

The lawmaker described the situation as deeply troubling and confirmed that the state government, led by Governor Ahmed Aliyu, has deployed additional forces to the area in response.

A local resident, who requested anonymity, reported that the bandits, armed and riding in pairs on motorcycles, did not target the community directly. Instead, they ambushed the soldiers, resulting in the fatalities and injuries. The bandits, who had previously caused chaos in the region, were described as having sophisticated weaponry.

The resident noted that the bandits had recently been involved in another violent incident in the area, underscoring the ongoing security challenges faced by local communities. Despite repeated reports to security forces about the bandits' activities, responses have reportedly been insufficient.

Nigerian Soldiers killed in Sokoto state and no comment from the defence headquarters . No invasion of the community by the soldiers. Why is it the opposite whenever a soldier is wounded in the South?
