For the first time in three years, Nigeria’s track star Tobi Amusan will not be competing at the 49th edition of Athletissima, the 11th leg of the 2024 Diamond League in Lausanne, Switzerland, this Sunday.

Amusan’s absence is notable, as her name is missing from the list of confirmed participants for the 100m hurdles event.

In both 2022 and 2023, she finished as the runner-up behind Puerto Rico’s Jasmine CamachoQuinn, the then-reigning Olympic champion.

In 2022, Amusan clocked 12.45 seconds, just behind Camacho-Quinn, who set a meeting record of 12.34 seconds, only a month after Amusan had stunned the world with a 12.12-second world record, followed by a wind-aided 12.06-second victory to claim the world title in Oregon, USA.

That year, Amusan went on to defend her Diamond League title successfully. In 2023, Amusan again took second place in Lausanne, finishing with a time of 12.47 seconds, while Camacho-Quinn won in 12.40 seconds. Despite the loss, Amusan capped off her season on a high note, securing her third consecutive Diamond League title.
