A 30-year-old man, identified as Aminu Bala, has been apprehended by operatives of the Jigawa State Police Command for allegedly defrauding the public with counterfeit U.S. dollars. The arrest was confirmed in a statement by the command's spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam.
The suspect's arrest followed a complaint lodged by Alhaji Sani Muhammad, a resident of Kano State, who reported a case of fraud at the Kiyawa Divisional Police Headquarters. Muhammad claimed that an individual in Nafara village, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, deceived him into handing over two million naira in cash under the guise of exchanging it for U.S. dollars.
Upon receiving the complaint, the Rapid Response Team quickly launched an investigation. Their efforts led to the arrest of Aminu Bala, a resident of Tambuwal Local Government Area, Sokoto State.
During the arrest, police recovered several items from the suspect, including a small box containing 321 counterfeit 100 U.S. dollar bills, a red boxer motorcycle with the registration number KSF 538 QJ, and cash amounting to N59,820.
Further investigation revealed that the motorcycle and money in Bala's possession were taken from another victim, Abdulrauf Sulaiman, from Kwatai village, Birnin Kudu LGA, who had also fallen prey to the scam.
The police spokesperson stated that Bala has confessed to the crime and will face charges in court.
