YOUTHS of Kuru in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State have arrested a herdsman allegedly dressed in an army camouflage uniform.

THE PUNCH learnt that the unarmed herdsman was arrested by members of a vigilance group on Thursday while he was on a suspected reconnaissance mission for a planned attack on the area.

When the unnamed herdsman could not explain why he was roaming around the area alone, he was arrested and dragged to Kaduna Vom Police Station.

A source in the state police command told our correspondent that the suspect had been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department in Jos for further questioning.

The command’s spokesman, Mr. Apev Terhemba, told our correspondent on the telephone on Sunday that he was yet to confirm the arrest.

He, however, promised to reach our correspondent later, which he never did.

Meanwhile, the President of the Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria, Sir John Bagu, has advised Christian faithful to shun all forms of rituals in their quest for victory in the April elections.

Bagu gave the advice at a press conference after the council’s 118th annual conference held at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Shendam in Plateau State.

He warned that power acquired through diabolical means would attract retribution and bring the church to disrepute.

Bagu said that although the council had not adopted candidates for the elections, it would adequately educate the lay faithful to vote for contestants with proven integrity.

Let me understand this: Wearing of military (camouflage) uniform by a civilian is a crime? I do not see any
harm in this if he is not impersonating a soldier or doing something evil. It appears that this cattle herdsman
was just wearing some clothes he might have found somewhere or was given by a generous donor.

Youths of Kuru in Jos South LGA are doing good providing security for their area but they should also know that
not everyone is an emeny.

Well it's unfortunate that everything is seen in one perspective, wearing of military uniform may be a crime, but wearing something that looks like military uniform here on the Plateau is considered also a crime because of animosity amongst the populace. That is the outcome of crisis... Sad Sad
