Billionaire businessman and owner of Geregu Power Plant, Femi Otedola, has praised the successful lifting of petrol from Dangote Refinery, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s battle against fuel scarcity. Otedola declared that fuel queues are now a thing of the past, following Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) trucks loading petrol at the refinery on Sunday.
In a statement, Otedola credited President Bola Tinubu for playing a crucial role in supporting the Dangote Refinery’s achievement. "Kudos to President Tinubu for making this a reality! Fuel queues are now a thing of the past as Dangote Refinery starts loading PMS today, Sunday, 15 September 2024," he wrote.
Reflecting on past challenges, Otedola recalled how he and Aliko Dangote once planned to invest in Nigeria's refineries, a venture that was obstructed by the government. He applauded Dangote, describing the refinery as a project that has freed Nigeria from economic dependence on foreign fuel imports.
“You have not just built a refinery; you have liberated us from the chains of economic dependence that have held this nation back for far too long,” Otedola remarked. He emphasized that Dangote's refinery has ended the dominance of local "cabals" who profited from Nigeria’s reliance on imported fuel, asserting that their era of economic control is now over.
