Nigerian music superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has opened up about how he copes with the profound losses he has experienced over the years. The singer, who has faced multiple personal tragedies, shared insights into his journey through grief during a recent interview with *Mystery Fashionist* in New York.
Davido, 31, lost his mother, Mrs. Victoria Imade Adeleke, at the age of 11, and more recently, his three-year-old son Ifeanyi Adeleke. He has also mourned the deaths of close associates, including his friends Tagbo, DJ Olu, Obama DMW, and his personal photographer, Fortune, all of whom passed away in quick succession.
Speaking on how he has endured these painful losses, Davido credited his faith for helping him stay strong.
“I have lost a lot of people. I lost my mum at the age of eleven. I’m just being strong. I did a song called ‘Stand Strong,’” he shared. “I feel like strength and obviously, my faith has kept me going.”
Beyond discussing his grief, the singer also addressed misconceptions about his personality. He acknowledged that people often misinterpret his character, believing him to be either unapproachable or overly accessible.
“I think sometimes, people think I am not approachable. Another misconception is that people also think I am too accessible,” Davido explained.
He went on to attribute his sense of openness to his upbringing in a large family, which exposed him to being surrounded by people from a young age. “I grew up in a big family, I’m used to having people around me. My talent and success is God-given,” he added.
The interview shed light on the resilience and faith that have carried Davido through challenging times, while also offering a glimpse into his personal beliefs and the misconceptions he faces in the public eye.
