In a dramatic turn of events, a pastor from the End Time Messages Church has been ordered to pay child support after DNA tests confirmed he is the biological father of two children with a woman whose wedding he officiated.
Eunice Mururi’s marriage to Farai Hatirarami fell apart following revelations that Hatirarami is not the biological father of the children he believed were his. In response, Mururi took Pastor Vhetu to the Chiredzi Magistrate Court, seeking $700 per month in child maintenance for her two children, aged 8 and 4.
During the court proceedings, Pastor Vhetu admitted to fathering the children but requested a reduction in the maintenance amount. He explained that his income primarily comes from tithes and offerings, often in the form of food hampers rather than cash.
Represented by attorney Farai Chauke of F. Chauke and Associates, Vhetu claimed he has no regular salary and could only manage $150 per child for maintenance. In addition to his pastoral responsibilities, he also mentioned that he is a farmer and supports eight other children. Vhetu further disclosed that he does not have a bank account, relying solely on an EcoCash account, and promised to cover the children’s school uniforms and fees.
However, his suggestion that new clothes should only be purchased in June or December, coupled with the remark that "only Elon Musk’s children receive new clothes every month," raised eyebrows in the courtroom.
Magistrate Diana Musiiwa dismissed Vhetu's arguments as “insincere,” ultimately ruling that he must pay $175 per month for the support of both children. The verdict has left the local community in shock, particularly regarding the pastor’s actions and the fallout from the marriage he had solemnized.
