The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has announced with deep sorrow the names of six employees who perished in a helicopter crash on Thursday. The victims, listed on the flight's electronic manifest, include Tamunoemi Suku, Alu Lawrence, Etim Emmanuel, Kenneth Chikwem, Frank Oriamre, and Borris Ndorbo. The pilot, Captain Yakubu Dukas, was also among the deceased, while one additional passenger remains unidentified.
According to reports from SaharaReporters, the helicopter, operated by East Winds Aviation, was en route to the FPSO-NUIMS ANTAN facility when it tragically went down in the Atlantic Ocean.
The Nigerian Air Management Agency (NAMA) has mobilized resources for the search and recovery efforts, enlisting assistance from neighboring countries, including Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, to locate the missing helicopter and the four other passengers.
At the time of the crash, eight individuals were onboard. Search teams have so far recovered five bodies, with three found shortly after the incident and two more retrieved on Friday. Despite ongoing search operations, efforts to locate the wreckage or any remaining victims have yet to yield results.
Umar Farouq, Managing Director of NAMA, assured the public that search efforts are being coordinated with multiple agencies. “Through concerted efforts, we are actively pursuing the matter. We are optimistic about our success in recovering the missing helicopter and passengers,” he stated. Farouq confirmed that all relevant Flight Information Regions have been engaged in the search efforts.
