Tragedy struck residents of Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State as an early morning fire incident claimed lives of a couple, Muhammad Uba, 67, and his wife, Fatima Muhammad, 52.

The spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif, confirmed the development.
He said the incident occurred at Layin AU Ungogo Local Government Area.
Yusif said the victims were trapped by the smoke and suffered some degree of burns on parts of their bodies.
According to him, “Today, being Friday 13th December 2024, state fire service received a call for emergency assistance at about 01:45 am from one of our staff Ahmad Abubakar.
He informed the control room about the fire incident at Rangaza (Inken) Layin AU Ungogo local government area.
“Crew on duty from Bompai fire station were mobilized to the place where the incident happened and arrived at the scene of incidence at about 01:51 a.m.
When they arrived, they found that the fire had been successfully controlled on the arrival of the brigade.
“The place where the fire broke out was a building of ground floor use as a dwelling house, and two rooms engulfed by fire completely.
“Meanwhile, a 67-year-old man named Muhammad Uba, and his wife Fatima Muhammad of about 52 years, were trapped by the smoke.
“They were rescued with burns in some parts of their bodies, and later confirmed dead.
“The corpses were handed over to the ward head, Muhammad Auwalu Rayyanu of Rangaza in Ungogo council.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation,” Yusif stated.
