Olaleye Abdullahi, who was shot by a police officer, Inspector Moses Momoh, on December 12, 2024, is now bedridden and has been left in a private hospital in Ogun State.
The shooting occurred in front of Matrix Petrol Station on Kara-Berger Road. Sources suggest that Inspector Moses, who was allegedly intoxicated at the time, is attached to the Warewa Police Station.
The incident has raised concerns about the conduct of law enforcement, especially given the circumstances surrounding the officer's state during the shooting.
Abdullahi’s family revealed that he has been abandoned by police authorities at the hospital while the suspect who was allegedly released from detention 24 hours after the incident, also failed to pay the hospital bills incurred.
They also demanded that “all necessary legal measures be taken against Inspector Moses Momoh to ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law”.
“A policeman from Warewa Police Station, who was under the influence of alcohol fatally shot Abdullahi in front of Matrix filling station along Kara-Berger Road, Ogun state,” a source said.
After firing his weapon once, he was cautioned by his friend, yet he fired again, hitting Abdullahi who was driving gently to his house.
“The officer was detained for 24 hours at Adigboluja Police Station at Ojodu, Berger area of Ogun State, before being released.
“We visited the station and the DPO confirmed to us that he had indeed released him. With almost N4 million bill incurred in the hospital for Abdullahi’s treatment, we (his family) members seek justice before taking the law into our own hands by gathering at the station.
“The officer responsible for this heinous act must be brought to justice through appropriate legal action.”
Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, could not be reached for comment as she did not answer her calls.
