The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) successfully rescued residents after a fire broke out on the 11th floor of the Ultimate Apartments, an 11-story building in Ikoyi.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident on Saturday, revealing that the agency received a distress call late Friday night.
Swift Response to Emergency
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the distress call was logged at 10:16 p.m. through LASEMA’s toll-free emergency lines, 767 and 112. Response teams from Lekki, Onipan, and the Command and Control Centre in Alausa were immediately dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival, our team discovered that the fire had engulfed the 11th floor of the Ultimate Apartments. Further investigation indicated that the blaze originated from a single room, though the exact cause remains unknown,” he said.
Residents Safeguarded
Emergency responders worked diligently to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the building. During the operation, LASEMA teams educated residents about the dangers of smoke inhalation and fire safety measures.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported, and the fire was completely extinguished.
Vigilance Encouraged
Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu commended the prompt alert from residents and reiterated the importance of using emergency lines during crises. He also stressed the need for enhanced fire safety practices in residential high-rises to prevent such incidents in the future.
Authorities have yet to determine the fire's cause, but investigations are ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
