
Nigerian music sensation Burna Boy has called for an end to being compared with the late Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, asserting his individuality and distinct identity as an artist.
The Grammy-winning musician, who often draws parallels to Fela for his socially conscious music, has recently been at the center of controversy following the detention of Speed Darlington for allegedly defaming him.
Addressing both the situation and the comparisons, Burna Boy Burna Boy reiterated that he is not Fela and called for an end to the comparisons.
He emphasized his distinct identity, stating that he represents “positivity, peace, and prosperity,” but added a controversial remark about self-preservation.
Taking to his Instagram story section on Monday, he wrote, “Also all that Burna Boy and Fela talk needs to die now. I’m not Fela, l’m BIG7. I’m all about positivity, peace and prosperity but honestly l’d rather kill you than d!e for you.”
The statement has sparked mixed reactions, with fans divided over his remarks.
