Ogun Police Arrest Man For Illegal Firearms Possession, Alleged Theft Of N16m Worth Of Items

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Ahmed Onanuga, for illegally possessing firearms in the Onileowo community, Shagamu Local Government Area.

According to report, Onanuga was caught with firearms after being accused of stealing items valued at N16 million.

The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity.

“On January 1, 2025, at approximately 9:30 am, a report was filed stating that between August 2024 and January 2025, several items were stolen, from a yard, eight beams valued at N400,000, 338 bags of bolt and nuts valued at N15,379,000 and eight vertical brackets valued at N280,000, a total value of N16,059,000.

“The complainant stated that he strongly suspects one Ahmed Onanuga, 40-year-old, civilian security attached to the Savitec Company. On the strength of these allegations, we swiftly drafted a team of detectives led by W/ASP Omoregied Charity to the scene. After examining the scene, the team proceeded to Onile Village via Danco petrol station area where the said Ahmed Onanuga was arrested.

“A search warrant was carried out at the suspect’s residence, resulting in the recovery of the following items: one English pump action, one double barrel gun, one live cartridge, two cutlasses, one large plier, and one small knife. During interrogation, the suspect denied the theft allegations but admitted to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity,”
she said.

Odutola stated that the investigation is ongoing and that the case will be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta.

“Preliminary investigation is ongoing and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department Abeokuta as soon as the preliminary investigation is completed,” she added
