
The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has warned commercial drivers within the state to refrain from transporting flammable materials in their vehicles to ensure the safety of passengers.
The warning followed an explosion involving a white Mazda bus with registration number KJA 949 YJ at about 1 pm at Muhammadu Buhari Estate along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway on Tuesday.
It Was reported that the vehicle was carrying a filled gas cylinder, which exploded, leading to a fire outbreak.
Sixteen people were burnt beyond recognition, three sustained severe injuries, and two were unhurt.
Reacting to the incident, the governor, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, described the accident as preventable.
He emphasised the need for strict handling and transportation protocols for highly flammable substances, including gas and petroleum products.
