Panic broke out on Saturday, May 10, 2025, after a truck went up in flames at Oyebamiji Transport Services, a popular mechanic workshop located in the Sanyo area of Ibadan, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The affected vehicle, a Layland DAF truck bearing registration number GGE 37 YA (Lagos), was reportedly undergoing repairs when it caught fire. Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident.
According to the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mafuf Akinwande, a distress call was received at the agency's control center at exactly 12:30 p.m. Firefighters, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Adekola, were immediately dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival, our team found the truck already engulfed in flames. They acted swiftly to suppress the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby vehicles and properties,” Akinwande said.
Although the truck’s fibre body sustained damage, the fire was successfully contained before reaching the engine compartment or other trucks parked nearby.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was triggered by overheating during the use of an oxyacetylene welding system on the fibre body of the truck.
