Europe largest airline, AirFrance-KLM, on Tuesday said it would begin Lagos-Paris-Cancun flights in October, 2011
A statement by the French carrier said that the Mexican city would be operated three times in a week.
The statement said, "Starting on October 21, 2011, Air France will be operating three weekly services from Paris-Charles de Gaulle to Cancun (Mexico) on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The flights will be operated by Boeing 777-300s with a total capacity of 472 seats: 14 in Business class and 458 in the Voyageur (Economy) cabin."
Cancun, in south-east Mexico, is on the Caribbean coast. Gateway to the "Mundo Maya", its hotel infrastructure and natural resources make it one of the most popular tourist destinations in Latin America and is also a rapidly-developing international conference centre, the airline said.
According to the carrier, the new route comes in addition to the 17 weekly flights operated by Air France and Aeromexico, member of SkyTeam, between Paris and Mexico.
Ten flights are operated by Air France and seven flights operated by Aeromexico. KLM also operates seven weekly frequencies from Amsterdam to Mexico.
The Senior Vice-President, AirFrance-KLM, Americas, Mr. Patrick Roux, said "The launch of flights to Cancun illustrates Air France-KLM's desire to continue its development strategy in Mexico and Latin America by offering customers close to 30 weekly flights from Paris or Amsterdam to Mexico."
