A 15-year-old girl has been charged with the shooting death of her mother. Braselton Assistant Police Chief Lou Solis said 42-year-old Karen Moore, a United States Army Sergeant, was found shot to death in her home in the Falls of Braselton subdivision. She had been shot once in the back of the head. Police received the call around 1:15 Thursday afternoon, after Sgt. Moore's daughter reported her mother wasn't breathing, but believe the shooting happened sometime Wednesday night. "The thing that set off the red flags was that we saw a shell casing on the ground," Solis says. Sgt. Moore's daughter and her 17-year-old boyfriend were questioned. After several hours, her daughter confessed to shooting at her mom. Police say it was the culmination of a series of arguments, ranging from boys to school. Solis says the teenager ran out of the house after firing the gun, and returned the next day with her boyfriend. When she tried to leave again, she couldn't start her car and asked neighbors for help. "I was gonna ask, do you need help? Do you need jumper cables or anything? And she just waved like nothing was wrong," says neighbor Lauren Matheson. "She had a feeling something was wrong," says Melissa Doster, recalling a conversation with another neighbor. "She didn't know if it was a mother's intuition or what, but when she talked to them, it seemed like something was wrong. And it wasn't long after that that the cops were called." The teenager went back inside the house, and later came back out and told neighbors something was wrong with her mother. When police arrived, they found the gun and Sgt. Moore's wallet inside of her daughter's car. The teenager is now being charged with murder. Her 17-year-old boyfriend is charged with having sex with a minor. Moore was an Army First Sergeant in the Recruiting Division and her husband is a Sergeant Major stationed in Alabama. Officers had to get permission from the teenager's father to question her. "The thing that he said was, make sure my daughter knows that I love her," Solis says.
