Two-thirds of Goal.com UK readers would rather Chelsea kept Didier Drogba next season instead of Fernando Torres.
65.4 per cent of readers feel that Didier Drogba is a better striker than Fernando Torres. Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti opted to go for the Spaniard ahead of the Ivorian in Tuesday night’s clash against Manchester United in the Champions League.
The £50 million was a massive disappointment at Old Trafford and suffered the ignominy of being hooked the Spaniard off at half-time for Drogba, and the powerhouse striker did not disappoint as he scored the Blues' only goal of the tie.
Many feel that Torres, who moved for a British transfer record in January, has had enough time to demonstrate his quality but so far has been unable to produce, having failed to score in 11 games.
Ys Lola from Lagos, Nigeria said: "If you look at Torres at Atletico Madrid and Liverpool and check his trophy carbinet you can't find up to five trophies and medals and go to Drogba's cabinet you'll understand why a half-fit Drogba is better than fully fit Torres any day, any time, so Drogba is the best."
Mike from Anambra commented: "Drogba is the king in Chelsea. Yesterday's game proved it beyond all reasonable doubts. Torres is good but he is under a spell at Chelsea. Ancelotti made the worst mistake by starting Torres instead of Drogba. Thanks God, Drogba showed why is the king."
However, some 34.6% of readers are prepared to give Torres more time. Many alluded to the fact that Drogba was getting too old.
Ola, from DD says: "Be realistic. If you are a Chelsea fan, please open up your brain and think. You guys are rushing over Torres and making him feel worse.
Drogba has another two years more or less to be at top level. If Torres hit his form, Chelsea will be the most dangerous team in Europe behind Barca."
David B, from Reading, added: "I myself am a Manchester United fan and I believe that Torres isn’t all at fault. They don’t have anyone supplying him with through balls to make easier chances like he did at Liverpool.
If I was Ancelotti I would buy a playmaker like Ganso or Sahin and that will help Torres find the back of the net and I’m getting frustrated with his performances now. Drogba too old but still quality."
