Reports claim the Ghost Rider actor and ALICE KIM were having a heated argument in a New Orleans street in the early hours of Saturday morning.
They were in disagreement over the location of a house they had rented.
After police stepped in to try and calm the raging Hollywood star, he violently gripped his wife's arm before punching and kicking nearby cars.
He then tried to get in to a taxi before being arrested. He was later charged with domestic abuse battery, disturbing the peace and public drunkenness.
Earlier that night he had been spotted in a tattoo parlour in the city, drunkenly claiming he didn't know where he lived.
Nic met Alice, 26, when she was working as a waitress in a Los Angeles restaurant.
The pair wed in 2004 following a five-month romance, and have a son, KAL-EL, five. Comic book nut Cage named the tot after Superman, giving him the same birth name as the caped character.
Following his arrest the actor was detained in Orleans Parish Prison, where he was placed on $11,000 (£6,700) bail.
In a bizarre twist, DUANE 'DOG' CHAPMAN - star of reality show Dog The Bounty Hunter - coughed up the cash.
Cage is due to appear in court on May 31.
