Atakora Lalawele scored two of the goals for Togo and then set up Wome Senome for the third. Ikechukwu Ibenegbu scored both goals for Nigeria.
The loss became the first for Siasia as the Eagles coach after wins over Sierra Leone, Ethiopia and Kenya.
After the match against Ghana on Thursday Siasia was full of optimistic about a successful defence of the cup they won with Daniel Amokachi as coach.
Under the atmosphere of great hope the Eagles stepped out backed heavily by Nigerians who had gathered in numbers to celebrate yet another WAFU Cup outing and did look like they were out on a mission when the match kicked off but the Togolese soon got more confident when they noticed that Nigeria’s goalkeeper was not at his best. Both sides produced waves of attack that produced all the goals in the first half.
There were goals and there were also cards. The Eagles and the Hawks lost one player each to red cards.
Liberians who had played well through the competition without much to show for it were compensated with the third place after beating Ghana 3-1.
