Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Sunday morning stormed the home of Pa Louis Azubogu in Nnewi, Anambra State and abducted him.
Azubogu is the father of Mr. Chris Azubogu, a member of the House of Representatives for Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency.
The lawmaker said the four-man gang walked into the family compound as they were preparing for church service and took the old man away.
He said, “As I speak with you, they have not contacted us. I am still in shock,” he said.
He appealed to the kidnappers to bring back his father in good health.
Azubogu also appealed to security agencies to rally round and rescue the old man from his abductors.
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Muktari Ibrahim, confirmed that the Azubogu family had reported the matter to the police.
The high rate of kidnapping in Nnewi had raised concern two months ago when professional bodies and traders closed their shops for several days to protest against the kidnapping of doctors and other professionals.
