The staff members of government owned universities will embark on an industrial action on November 30.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had, last month, embarked on a one-week warning strike because the Federal Government had failed to honour the agreement it entered with them since 2009.

The non-academic staff unions of Nigerian universities have also vowed to embark on an industrial action by November 30 if the Federal Government (FG) fails to honour the agreement it entered with them since 2009.

The unions are demanding for the retirement age to be increased from 60 to 65 years, the 50% monetisation signed by government be paid to their members, as well as improved funding of universities across the nation.

The Unions, comprising of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Nigerian Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) and Non Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), in a letter issued to the Minister of Education, Ruqqayat Rufa’i, gave the FG November 22 as the deadline for the implementation of the agreement.

Clement Chup, the Chairman of the University of Abuja chapter of ASUU decried what he described as “government’s insensitivity to issues bordering on the education sector”.

, i wonder what type of country is nigeria where important and sencitive issues re dealth with as if it matters nothing
education  must be the most priority to any government , a country with no education is like a dumb loaf of bread that would fall at any giving  time, its so painful ,and after saying all these it will still fall to deaf ears ,backward government

e don do jare! which kin strike strike be dis sef? The university staff should also think of the poor people's children. Dont they know that none of those ministers' children are in the nation's university? This incessant strike has become a tool in the hands of this workers to hold the nation to ransom for their selfish aims and it must be put to stop.

Minister of Power daughter lives in my street, 2 Ex and present Gov attends my school and many more. You can strike all you want this people don't give a shit! Only the poor masses children in Nigeria uni will suffer this. All the strikes in Nigeria hasn't done anything to help. However, our politicians are ruthless and a disgrace to the human race, can't they just keep to promise or for once do the right thing? Why must every Nigerian matter end on Corruption highway? They should just privatize all this schools, our Govt are incapable of handling anything. All they can do is take away oil subsidy and allow Boko Haram to grow under its nose.
