The gory details emerged on Friday of how assailants gunned down four children of a councillor, Honourable Pam Iboji Pam, and three other residents in his house in Plateau State, on Thursday.
The victims were among 25 corpses given a mass burial amidst tears and wailings by their relatives and other people in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.
Giving an account of the bloody clash on Thursday, Pam said the assailant launched a surprise gun attack leaving the people dead.
There was pandemonium in the area following the killings and burning of property that characterised the clash between the natives and the Fulanis’ with people scamping for safety.
The councillor, told Saturday Tribune on phone at the site of the mass burial that the assailants hid in the nearby bush and released several gun shots at them. According to him, the assailants were later repelled by security operatives in the area.
Hon. Pam said it would be difficult to give the accurate figure of those who died in the attack in the local government adding that his people were still combing the local government for possible recovery of more bodies.
Findings revealed that those displaced by the situation and others had abandoned their residences and taken refuge at the Divisional Police Headquarters to avoid another attack.
As of press time, there was palpable tension in the local government as most people stayed indoor while economic activities remained paralysed.
Speaking with newsmen, the Information and Media Officer of the Special Task Force, Operation Safe Heaven Captain Charles Ekeocha, said a total of 163 people had been arrested in connection with the attack and various assorted weapons recovered from them.
He said six of those arrested in connection with the killing of an inspector of police and his family had been handed over to the police for further investigations.
According to them, the weapons included one telescopic barrel riffle, four single barrel guns, two AK47 riffles, nine locally made guns, two magazines of AK45 rifle, fifty two 7.62mm special bullets, three 7.62 NATO bullets and 46 pieces of cartridges.
Others were 55 pieces of machetes, 61 arrows, three bows, six iron rods, 26 knives, seven diggers, 12 axes, 12 spear and 11 carports.
The Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Oluseyi Peterin, along with the top officials of the STF led by Major-General Olayinka Osinowo, visited the scenes of the attack on Thursday for an assessment of the situation.
