You are walking on egg shells here. You got yourself a Devil and the Deep Blue sea situation here. If you decide not to tell him and he finds out from someone else, then your relationship is more likely to crash than when you do tell him yourself. The version of your former life that he may get from someones else may be more damaging than what it really is in reality. If he loves you, he will stick around if you really have turned away from that life. So, keeping the truth from him may not help you much here. You have to let the truth out in a way that helps you have a better control of the consequences of saying it.
