Contrary to expectations from across the country the Federal Government delivered a staggering economic sucker punch to the populace by removing the subsidy payment it makes on fuel imports effective from January 1, 2012.

Since then it has been a story of woes, protests, allegations and arguments on the usefulness or otheerwise of removing fuel subsidy. While some like the former military head of state Gen. Ibrahim Babangida disagree with the timing of the decision many other ordinary Nigerians, civil society groups believe the subsidy should not have been removed at all.

Though the Nigerian Labour Congress and civil society groups had succeeded through a week long protest to reduce the pump price of petrol to N97 per litre it is only a matter of months before the full removal of fuel subsidy takes place.

For business people and entrepreneurs that will mean taking certain measures to adjust to the change in pump price of petrol.

What is the implication of the fuel subsidy removal for the average entrepreneur, business leader and investor?

How can any creative business person benefit from the current removal of subsidy from fuel/petrol importations? Is it possible to turn the bleak implications of rising costs of virtually everything (as a result of the increase in fuel prices) to your advantage?

We look at three various ways you can turn the fuel subsidy removal to your advantage.

1. Invest in Alternative Energy: With fuel prices rising as high as N150 per litre in some areas and power supply still to take some time before becoming stable now is the right time to invest in alternative sources of energy supply for personal and possibly business use. Solar powered and green cell devices will help you save money you would have spent on buying petrol. Instead of using electricity powered computer systems at your office you can invest on solar powered laptops..........
