In a tragic turn of events, two young individuals fell victim to a ruthless attack by unidentified gunmen in the serene town of Ogbe, nestled within the Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State. The incident, which unfolded on Friday, has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving its residents reeling in grief and disbelief.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the assailants, wielding sophisticated firearms, launched their deadly assault with impunity, brazenly executing their targets without encountering any resistance from local security forces.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a witness recounted the harrowing ordeal, stating, "Some gunmen believed to be of Fulani descent allegedly perpetrated the heinous act, claiming the lives of two vibrant youths dedicated to serving their community. The incident occurred in the vicinity of Oyi River before the perpetrators made their way to Ogbe Town, leaving a trail of devastation in their wake."

The tragic incident has prompted swift condemnation from various quarters, with Senator Sunday Karimi⁩, representing the Kogi West Senatorial District, expressing grave concern over the escalating wave of banditry and kidnapping in the region. Senator Karimi reiterated his longstanding advocacy for the establishment of state police as a critical measure to stem the tide of violence gripping Yagba land.

Furthermore, the lawmaker called upon the Kogi State government to expedite efforts to improve infrastructure, citing the urgent need for the reconstruction of the Egbe–Ogbe road in Yagba West Local Council to facilitate easier access for law enforcement agencies and enhance security measures.

In the midst of profound sorrow, Senator Karimi extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and extended solidarity to the grieving community of Ogbe.

Meanwhile, efforts to obtain official comment from the Kogi State Police Command have been met with uncertainty, as the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP William Ovye Aya, indicated that the command is yet to receive a formal report on the incident. However, assurances were made that once comprehensive details become available, they will be promptly communicated to the public.

As investigations into this senseless act of violence unfold, residents of Ogbe and surrounding areas remain on edge, grappling with the chilling reality of insecurity that has encroached upon their once tranquil existence.
