The Kwara State police command has dismantled a syndicate involved in the theft and dismantling of vehicles stolen from Lagos State for resale in Kwara State.
DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, the command’s spokeswoman, revealed the details in a statement. She noted that detectives were alerted to suspicious activities at a dump site in the Madi area along the Okolowo/Jebba expressway in Ilorin, where several individuals were found dismantling a car.
"Upon arrival at the scene, three suspects, Abdulateef Abdulwahab, Wasiu Musa, and Tajudeen Abdulrasak, were caught in the act of dismantling a Nissan Almera, ash in color, with Lagos registration number AKD919AU," Ejire-Adeyemi said.
During their interrogation, the suspects provided information that led to the arrest of four additional accomplices: Usman Oseni, Abdulrasheed Jimoh, Abdulrasak Jamiu Ayinde, and Lukman Ibrahim, all residents of Ilorin, Kwara State.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the car had been snatched at gunpoint in Lagos State and transported to Ilorin for dismantling and resale.
The police also identified two more suspects, Olarewaju Sukirulahi and an individual known only as "Old Soldier," who remain at large. Efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend these fugitives.
Commending the swift and professional actions of the officers involved in the operation, Commissioner of Police Victor Olaiya praised their efforts in bringing the suspects to justice.
