Sanusi, Okonjo-Iweala Push For Complete Removal of Fuel Subsidy

Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Lamido Sanusi, and Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala,  are pushing for complete removal of fuel subsidy.
During the brouhaha over the hike in fuel price, Okonjo-Iwaeala insisted that a downward review could spell an economic harakiri.
Pointblanknews.com sources said Okonjo-Iweala who is eyeing the Presidency of the World Bank is pushing for a complete removal of fuel subsidy and hike electricity tarrif.
In an interview with Reuters on Friday in New York Sanusi  said that the current system of subsidizing fuel prices is unsustainable.This position Okonjo-Iweala has advocated.


The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi said that a sharp fall in oil prices could spell big trouble for the country.
Mr Sanusi, a former banker who specialized in risk management and who is allied with Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in the push for reforms, is pushing for the complete removal of the system of subsidizing fuel.
The government tried to scrap the subsidies but backtracked after widespread protests earlier this year and partially reinstated them.
