Another high-profile kidnap incident was recorded yesterday as the mother of a former group managing director of UBA Plc, Tony Elumelu, was kidnapped and taken to an unknown destination. According to reports reaching LEADERSHIP, the kidnappers were yet to contact the family to state the motive for their action.

Impeccable sources in Aniocha North local government area of Delta State revealed that Madam Elumelu, mother of UBA and Ndudi Elumelu, a serving member of the House of Representatives, was kidnapped at about 3 o'clock in the afternoon on her farm at Onicha-Uku.

Reports indicate that, at the Obi's Palace/Afo Market axis at Issele-Uku, the youthful kidnappers opened up a barrage of gunshots. It was a miracle that only one elderly lady got a bullet in the hand. The criminals thereafter escaped through Issele-Uku shooting sporadically and engaging a team of the anti-kidnapping squad in a gun duel in which they reportedly gained the upper hand.

The spokesman for the Delta State police command, Mr. Charles Muka, has confirmed the incident, saying the police would leave no stone unturned in handling the matter.

Mr. Elumelu is the chairman of Heirs Holdings, an African proprietary investment firm, and founder of The Tony Elumelu Foundation, an Africa-based and African-funded not-for-profit organisation that is dedicated to the promotion and celebration of excellence in business leadership and entrepreneurship across Africa.
