A Yaba Magistrate Court, Lagos, has remanded a football coach, Emmanuel Temuru, in prison custody, following his arraignment for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Miss Margaret Usen, who he had allegedly impregnated.
Magistrate Olalekan Bashorun, adjourned the case for advice of the state's Director of Public Prosecutions, noting that the DPP's advice would be ready in three weeks and ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody, pending the DPP's advice.
Temuru's plea could not be taken by the court, since the DPP's advice was not ready. However, the prosecutor, Mr Philip Ugbodu, told the court that Usen died after drinking and bathing with herbal concoction given to her at a clinic where Temuru took her.
According to the prosecutor, the alleged offence contravened Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
Meanwhile, in a related development, four persons have been charged before a Yaba Magistrate Court, Lagos, over alleged unlawful killing of one Yusuf Shaibu, an offence punishable under Section 221 of the Criminal Code, Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
The accused persons, who were arraigned on a two-count offence of murder, are David Nna 24; Yusuf Ajulo 18; Harrison Iheanacho 28 (aka Blacky) and a female known as Rukayat Job. 18. Their plea could not be taken as the Magistrate, Mrs S. Matepo, noted that the DPP's advice was needed in the matter.
