YAYA TOURE believes Manchester City have one hand on the Premier League trophy after he scored two superb goals to defeat Newcastle yesterday.
Toure’s inspirational performance put Roberto Mancini’s City within touching distance of their first league championship since 1968, with QPR to travel to the Etihad Stadium on the final day.
Toure scored with 20 minutes remaining, then clinched the points with an 89th-minute strike to leave City on the verge of a famous title success.
When asked if City now had one hand on the trophy, he said: “I think so. It is not finished.
“We have only one game left at home and have to be careful as QPR are fighting to stay in the Premier League. It will be tough but we have one step to go. We have to continue to work hard and believe until the last game.”
City’s five wins in a row means they can clinch the title next Sunday though it could still be that the Premier League will be won on goal difference for the first time.

Maybe we are favourites now. If we beat QPR we will be champions

Roberto Mancini
Sir Alex Ferguson, whose side travel to Sunderland on Sunday trailing by eight goals after their 2-0 win over Swansea yesterday, said: “It could be like Devon Loch [faller when leading the 1956 Grand National] – stranger things have happened in football.
“We just have to keep going with the right spirit. QPR need the points – I just wish Mark Hughes was playing for them!”
Watching City’s performance was a veteran of their last title-winning side in 1968, Mike Summerbee.
He was captured by TV cameras wiping away a tear after Toure’s second goal.
Mancini will also become a City legend if his side hold their nerve against QPR and, having only dropped two points at home all season, they start as huge favourites.
