The Special Task Force on Saturday said it had completed military operations in four of the five crisis-prone villages.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that it also asked some of the displaced inhabitants of the areas to return to their settlements.

The STF spokesman, Capt. Salisu Mustapha, said, “We have concluded operations at Kakuruk, Maseh, Shong and Gashesh villages. Only Mahanga village is left.

“As soon as we are through with Mahanga, we shall also let the inhabitants go back as we have done for the four villages,’’ he said.

The task force had on July 14, 2012, ordered the inhabitants of the five affected villages in Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas of the state to vacate the areas to enable it to carry out what it described as “military operations.”

The inhabitants were given only 48 hours within which to move out of their homes.

The displaced persons were kept in various camps within the two local governments including Dogo Nomadic Primary School, Gashesh, COCIN Church, Gangare, Barkin Ladi and Kura falls.

Others were Riyom Town Hall, Riyom Old Secretariat, Rahoss Primary School, Tahoss Primary School and Dian Nomadic Primary School.

But the Internally Displaced Persons, who were asked to return to their villages, said they could not because their houses and other properties were either destroyed or stolen by unknown persons.

Some of the leaders of the displaced persons told NAN on Saturday that they had no home to go to as their houses had been destroyed. They called on both the federal and state governments to come to their aid.

One of the victims, Mrs. Abigail John, said, “In my village, Bagai in Bachit District, Riyom LGA, there is no house that is standing as we speak, so where will we stay if we go back as directed by the authorities.

“Our properties that we left behind like the goats, foodstuff, chicken, bedding, clothes and even our farm implements have been stolen.’’

Another victim, Mr. Lazarus Emmanuel said, “None of us here still has a single place to call our home because every building has gone down due to the intense rain and activities of vandals.

“We don’t know the people that destroyed everything that we left behind. We are now confused about what to do. Only the authorities can assist us with this serious problem we have found ourselves in.”
