Oyato, the latest single of Dapo Oyebanjo otherwise called Dbanj and the first to be released since he parted ways with Don Jazzy was not one that may not be warmly embraced by a listener at first listen.

However the work produced by Jay Sleek is gradually pushing his way back to his fans, if rave reviews are anything to go by.

But one thing that has struck fans is the fact that in this single, the singer has dusted up his harmonica, an instrument he played with so much dexterity at the onset of his career in 2005. The mouth organ was no doubt instrumental to the success of his earlier classics Loke Loke, Why Me, Mobolowowon and Olohun Maje.

Though D’banj only plays the organ once on the track, after the first chorus, he succeeds in taking the listener on a musical journey laced with head bopping pop beats-which sticks.

On the idea behind the track, the singer says, “Oyato is my special dedication to my fans that have stood by me through it all. Thank you for being there for me. The only way I can truly repay them is to keep on making great music that they will always enjoy and be proud of.”

A fusion of Yoruba and English language, the first three minutes of the song, is quite captivating as Jay Sleek’s beat resound loudly.

This is followed almost immediately by an all male chorus, in Yoruba language. All through the track, the singer simply emphasises the fact that he is still D’banj and nothing can change that fact about him. An attentive listener will also not fail to notice that the song sheds some light on his recent travails and challenges, at the end of the Mo Hits record era.

Then he says he survived it all because he is D’banj. A low point in the track is that it ends rather too fast as the chorus and the refrain does not quite sink in before it is cut short. Towards the end of the song, the singer could be heard telling Jay Sleek “I wish they’d know me better.”
