The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar on Wednesday gave the Assistant Inspector-General in charge of Zone 4 Command, Mike Zuokumor and the Plateau state Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ayeni, a two weeks ultimatum to come up with solutions to address the security challenge in the troubled state.

The IGP who gave this directive at an emergency meeting with senior police officers in Abuja said though the menace confronting the nation has been persistent, the Jos crisis which has lingered for years is a huge problem that must be solved.

Sympathising with families of victims of violence in the state, Mr Abubakar said that the officers mandate to re-strategize and report back with effective solution to the Jos crisis, is to emphasize that the police will no longer tolerate incompetence and docility.

The Police boss then gave the ultimatum to the duo of the Assistant IGP and the state’s Commissioner of Police to come up with effective strategies to fight the menace and restore peace to the region.

On the recent explosions in Sokoto state, Mr Abubakar reassured residents that measures have been put in place to mitigate a re-occurrence of the terrorist attacks.

He warned that the force would not take kindly to any officer who does not produce results.

In the face of heightened tensions, the IGP also reminded the police officers that the fragile peace that now exists following the lifting of the state of emergency imposed on 15 local government areas in the four northern states, be improved upon and sustained.
