A three-storey building at 3, Anikantamo Street, at Adeniji-Adele, Lagos collapsed yesterday, rendering about 30 families homeless. The incident occurred at 12.45 pm, following a loud bang which jostled residents of the area. The building was constructed about 10 years ago and had signs of imminent collapse before now.
An occupant claimed some officials from Alausa Secretariat visited the house last year and advised the owner to carry out renovation but he turned deaf ears to it. He even collected two years rent from us because of the renovation, the tenant concluded.
Mr Femi Moliki, the authority’s spokesman, confirmed that a building indeed collapsed on the Lagos Island but said the casualty figure was yet to be ascertained.
