2 Persons Face Trial Over Theft Of N9m Car

Two men, including a security guard, appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates' Court in Lagos on Thursday for allegedly stealing a Mercedes Benz saloon car valued at N9 million.

The accused, Ibrahim Quadir, 22, and Mohammed Adamu, 21, are facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, attempted violence, receiving stolen property and stealing.

Prosecutor George Nwosu told the court that the duo conspired to steal the car with registration nnumber JJJ 197 AG, belonging to Mr Michael Osime.

He said the accused also stole jewellery, wrist watches and 400 dollars cash belonging to Osime.

According to him, Quadri, a security guard in Lekki area of the metropolis, received the stolen items.

"Quadri received the stolen car and hid it in his house, pending when it would be disposed of," Nwosu, an inspector, said.

Nwosu said the offences were committed on 29 October at 11.00 p.m. at 9, Raymond Njoku Stree, Ikoyi, Lagos.

He added that the offences contravened Sections 285, 295, 409 and 413 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Ali Balogun granted the accused bail in the sum of N1million each, with two sureties each in like sum.
